This year has proved to be a challenging and unusual one for everyone and we are all now learning to adapt to the ‘new normal’ way of life as we go about our daily lives.

During a year of many ups and downs, we have seen the local community come together stronger than ever to support one another and there has also been an increase in the amount of entrepreneurial activity taking place, not just around here but up and down the country.

Local portrait artist, Amanda Ellis, is one of those who has been inspired by experiences during this pandemic, to turn her passion into a reality and on Saturday 14th November, the ARIGATOU Fine Art Gallery will be opening its doors to the public.

During lockdown Amanda has seen an increase in the amount of portrait commissioned work coming in and this led her to developing the idea of creating a base, not just from where she could paint but somewhere that she could display artwork for all to enjoy, to purchase and, when it becomes possible, to teach from.

She shared her thoughts with a friend and the idea of opening the gallery was born.  Other locations were considered but their new spot on Edenbridge High Street won hands down.  It’s not just the picturesque view from the gallery window which appealed to them both,  but most importantly, it is at the heart of a vibrant artisan community which we have in this area.

Visitors to the gallery will not just be able to enjoy the artwork Amanda produces but also those of local ‘guest’ artisans who are invited to display and sell their arts and crafts as well.

Amanda is passionate about creating a space to make local art accessible to everyone, suiting all budgets and tastes.  It will also be her new studio space where you will be able to watch as she paints the commissions she receives.  Not only will visitors be able to enjoy finished pieces of art but they can watch the works in progress.

As with any new venture, Amanda is busy expanding her network of local artisans and would be delighted to hear from anyone who would like to be a future guest artist at the gallery.  Please get in touch or let your artisan friends know about this great opportunity.

So, the next time you’re looking for something unique to hang on your walls or just want to take some time out and enjoy the talents of some of our local artists, why not make ARIGATOU your first port of call.

Pop in at 83a High Street, Edenbridge, TN8 5AR or email Amanda@arigatou.gallery or visit arigatou.gallery online for more information.  Amanda is looking forward to meeting you.
