At the beginning of February, the museum reopened its doors with 2 new exhibitions.
‘Local Heroes Military Medal Display’: Learn about a recently acquired set of WW1 medals, one of them was for gallantry, which were awarded to Corporal Herbert Jennings. Read the moving story of Captain Ralph Constable, Northumberland Fusiliers who was killed in action aged 20.
‘The Story of Subbuteo’, the tabletop football game, created in 1946 by Peter Adolph in nearby Langton Green, is our other new display. Why was it named Subbuteo and did you know that the house in Langton Green proudly displays a blue plaque?
Upcoming visits: This year our volunteers are looking forward to welcoming the Edenbridge Brownies and Edenbridge Guides to the museum. The Guides are also planning to put on an exhibition to celebrate their 70th Anniversary later this year.
Quiz Night – Saturday 28th March: The museum is planning a quiz night at the Edenbridge WI Hall to raise funds for the upkeep of the museum. The ticket price of £15 per person will include supper. There will not be a bar so please bring your own drinks. Teams can be up to a maximum of 8 people per table. Pop into the museum to book a table, find out how to pay and tell us of any dietary requirements or take a look at our website for further information on this event.
Our first Children’s Activity this year will be in the Easter holidays. This FREE activity is aimed at 5- to 12-year-olds accompanied by an adult. Look out for information on how to book a place on social media, the website or pop into the museum.
Ongoing exhibitions include:
- Flow of Time in the Eden Valley
- Discover History through 25 objects
- Explore Change in the Eden Valley
The High Street Bedroom is an upstairs gallery aimed at our younger visitors. You will find lots of hands-on activities including a dressing-up area with a mirror – why not take a photo and post it on social media? The Cabinet of Curiosity is very popular with young visitors having lots of drawers to open and investigate. There are plenty of themed wordsearches as well as colouring pencils & colouring-in sheets.
During 2026 our lovely stewards will continue to welcome visitors to the museum and be on hand to answer questions.
We have volunteers who can provide outreach talks and activities in the community, please email curatorial.coms@evmt.org.uk if you would like a visit from us.
You can support the museum by becoming a member or if you would like to get more involved why not become a volunteer? Take a look at our website for further information www.evmt.org.uk.
